Prince Harry in Africa

Kensington Palace has released several photographs and a video of Prince Harry’s time in Africa over the northern summer, highlighting his work with the elephant conservation groups.

The photos show the Prince working with African Parks to relocate 500 elephants to the Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve in Malawi, where numbers of elephant herds are low – the reserve however is a safe area for the elephants to live as it is controlled by African Parks.

Harry released a statement, as well as captions to each photograph, on the work he participated in. “Elephants simply can’t roam freely like they used to, without coming into conflict with communities, or being threatened by poaching and persecution. To allow the coexistence of people and animals, fences are increasingly having to be used to separate the two, and try to keep the peace,” he said, before going into the necessity of having a balance between the amount of animals and the available habitat in the area to prevent the need to cull herds in the future should they outgrow the space they occupy.
