Born on March 22, 1956 in Havana, Cuba, to parents José Antonio Mestre y Alvarez and María Teresa Batista y Falla de Mestre. In 1959, the family moved to New York city because of the revolution. After completing high school, Maria Teresa moved to Switzerland, it was there where she met her future husband and was at the time known as Prince Henri.

On February 14, 1981, Maria Teresa Mestre married Prince Henri of Luxembourg. Together they have five children.
The Grand Duchess’s first language is Spanish, she is also fluent in French and English. After moving to Luxembourg, she learned the Luxembourgish language.Filed under Luxembourg Royals
