At least 28 people have been killed in Brussels this morning, as explosions occurred at the city’s airport and at a metro station.

The Belgian Royal Court issued a statement from King Philippe, saying that he and Queen Mathilde were “shocked by the horrific attacks” on the city. Their thoughts are with the victims and their families in this terrible time. The royal couple’s agenda for the next two days has been cancelled.

The King of the Netherlands said in a statement that “Europe is once again put to the test” and that his country “lives intensely with the people of Brussels who now live in uncertainty and fear…What is needed now is that we show our collective strength and uphold the values of freedom and solidarity.”

From Spain, King Felipe VI says they are “dismayed by the attacks in the capital of Europe” and offers his “solidarity and support to Belgium and its institutions.”

King Harald V of Norway offered the condolences of the Norwegian people to the Belgians and said that the attacks must remind Europe of “the importance of protecting our core democratic values.”

Prince Albert II of Monaco has also just released a statement saying the thoughts and sympathies of his family and the people of Monaco is with the victims and their families, and that they “honour the memory of the victims of these heinous acts of terrorism.”Filed under Belgian Royals, Dutch Royals, Monaco Royals, Norwegian Royals, Spanish Royals
