British Royals Attend Christmas Church Service at Sandringham

Another year, another Christmas at Sandringham for the Windsors. Today it was off to St Mary Magdalene’s Church on the Sandringham Estate for a pre-lunch church service.
The bulk of the royal family, including Lady Sarah Chatto and her family, walked the short distance to and from Sandringham House, to the delight of the 1,000-plus locals who gathered outside the church. Young James, Viscount Severn, the son of the Earl and Countess of Wessex, made his first appearance at a Christmas church service.
The Queen stood out from the rest of her family – and brightened up the dreary weather – in a vibrant red ensemble trimmed with fur. The other royal ladies opted for shades of grey (the Duchess of Cornwall and the Countess of Wessex), greens (the Duchess of Cambridge and the Princess Royal) and blues (Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie and Lady Louise).
I
n the afternoon, Queen Elizabeth’s annual Christmas Day message was broadcast, in which she spoke of hope in the midst of the darkness that had befallen the world in 2015. “It is true that the world has had to confront moments of darkness this year, but the Gospel of John contains a verse of great hope, often read at Christmas carol services, ‘The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it’.”
