Princess Laurentien Attends National Reading Breakfast Days

   January 27, 2016 at 7:10 pm by Marika86

Today, Wednesday January 27, Princess Laurentien attended the launch of the National Reading Breakfast Days in the Primary School “De Ladder” in Maarn, in the province of Utrecht.

This school is known for its high priority towards the language development and reading: owns a library in the school and organizes various reading activities. During the visit, the Princess read to the children of grade 1 and 2 the book “We have a kid there!” written by Marjet Huiberts and illustrated by Iris Deppe. The book was elected Picture Book of the Year 2016 by a jury of Dutch children’s librarians.

The National Reading Days is an initiative of the Reading Foundation and organized by the Foundation for Collective Promotion of the Dutch Book (CPNB). Started today, the National Reading Days will last until February 6. The purpose of this event is to encourage the reading of children who don’t read yet.

This week, across The Netherlands, at nurseries, kindergartens, libraries and schools, will take place many events in order to promote the reading. At this event participate politicians, mayors, athletes, columnists, actresses, presenters, singers, rappers, footballers.

In May 2004 Princess Laurentien founded the Reading & Writing Foundation and on 24 March 2009 she was appointed as UNESCO Special Envoy for Literacy.
