Would you spend £1,500 on a slice of wedding cake, that you would be advised not to even contemplate eating? Most wouldn’t, but one punter has, purchasing a slice of Queen Victoria’s wedding cake at auction.
The cake, made in 1840 for the marriage of Queen Victoria to her first cousin, Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, comes with its presentation box inscribed on the top with a crown and the words ‘The Queen’s Bridal Cake Buckingham Palace, Feby 10, 1840’.
It was sold by David Gainsborough Roberts, from Jersey in the US.
