Today Princess Shahnaz Pahlavi celebrates her 75th birthday.
She was born in Tehran in 1940 as the only child of Mohammed Reza, the Shah of Iran, and his first wife, Princess Fawzia of Egypt. Her parents officially divorced when she was eight years old, Shahnaz staying in Iran with her father until she went to Switzerland to study before she married Ardeshir Zahedi at the age of 17 in 1957.

The pair were married in the Mirror Hall of the Golestan Palace and had one daughter, Princess Zahra Mahnaz Zahedi, before their divorce in 1964. Princess Shahnaz went on to remarry in 1971, to Khosrow Jahanbani, a move that was against her father’s wishes as he did not approve of his firstborn’s choice of second spouse, nor the way she was living her life. Two children were born of this marriage: Keykhosrow and Fawzia.
Princess Shahnaz currently lives in Switzerland.
