Danish State Visit to Indonesia, Days Two and Three

October 24, 2015 at 7:49 am by JessRulz

The Danish State Visit to Indonesia continued on Friday and Saturday, with the Regent Couple undertaking engagements in Jakarta and Yogyakarta.

As with the previous day, a number of these engagements had a focus on promoting Danish business interests in Indonesia. On Friday there was a Design and Lifestyle Fair, a visit to Grundfos where Prince Henrik was told about how the company is developing ways to create better water access in developing countries, and the opening of an energy-efficient office building.

Queen Margrethe also laid a wreath at the Indonesian War Memorial, the Kalibata Hero Graveyard, and had lunch with the Governor of Jakarta at the National Museum after a tour of an exhibition on the history of Indonesia’s spice route.

Prince Henrik in the afternoon visited the Lotte Shopping Centre, where he participated in a badminton match which helped to endear him to the locals, as the Indonesian media reported.

This morning in Yogyakarta the Queen was able indulge her creative side during a visit to a batik exhibition at the Centre for Crafts and Batik. Batik is the traditional Indonesian method of dying fabric using wax-resistant dyes.

She then visited the Gadja Maha University and had lunch with the Sultan of Yogyakarta. Prince Henrik meanwhile was in Surabaya, where he visited the Ecco factory and the Port of Surabaya to learn about Indonesia’s maritime strategy.

To end their state visit, as is their custom, Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik held a press conference at the Prambanan Temple.
