Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip’s Day in Birmingham

November 19, 2015 at 5:22 pm by JessRulz

Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh have spent the day in Birmingham, undertaking several engagements across the city, and the rain didn’t stop the locals from coming out to catch a glimpse of the royal couple.

The couple arrived via the royal train at Birmingham NewStreet station, where they were shown around the new complex after it’s official re-opening. They met with construction workers and apprentices who took part in the £750million renovations and also met with customer service staff. The Duke enquired of the station interface manager “how do you find your way back to your office?” in reference to the massive size of the new station.

Outside, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip attended a service of dedication at the Pals War Memorial which commemorates railmen who perished in World War One and laid a wreath in their memory. They then got aboard a tram – which matched the monarch’s bright pink ensemble! – through the city built as part of the new tram extension.

It was then over to the Birmingham Dental Hospital and School of Dentistry, operated jointed by the University of Birmingham and the Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Trust, to officially open the facility. The royal pair attended a luncheon with representatives of the hospital, before returning to London.
