The British Royals’ First Day in Malta

Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh have begun their visit to Malta for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, joined by the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall.

An official welcoming ceremony took place outside the San Anton Palace for the Queen and Prince Philip, presided over by President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca. Over 100 well-wishers gathered outside to see the couple, who lived in Malta in the early years of their marriage before the Queen took the throne.








During a reception, President Coleir Preca presented Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip with a watercolour painting of their old home in Malta, Villa Guardamangia, which received a delighted response from the Queen.

In the afternoon, the Prince of Wales and his wife undertook separate engagements – Prince Charles was present at the CHOGM Business Forum where he discussed sustainability and the fact that action needs to be taken soon before it is too late. Camilla, meanwhile, was given a tour of the Mdina Glass factory, the first glass factory established in the country.
